Together with researchers from Tohoku University, including Dr Asako Sugimoto and Dr Shun Oomura, we identified differences in the mechanisms regulating pronuclear migration and mitotic spindle dynamics between Caenorhabditis elegans and its closest known relative, C. inopinata. The findings show how evolutionary changes in cortical force-generating mechanisms and microtubule regulation can diversify fundamental cellular processes.
